01 — Context
Challenge
The client wanted people to practice orders and positions without opening a brokerage account. A demo that looked live would have been risky if a button could reach a real venue.
02 — Method
Approach
The product is explicit: simulated account, simulated fills. Positions, cash, and an order ticket update a paper ledger. Prices are delayed reference data. There is no broker connection. Client name under NDA.
Workflow
Open a paper account
The user gets cash in the simulator and an empty book.
Place a simulated order
Symbol, side, and quantity fill against the delayed price, or rest in the paper book.
Read the book
Positions and cash update. Nothing leaves the simulator.
Outcomes
- Every screen says the account is simulated
- Fills update cash and positions in the paper ledger
- No path exists to route an order to a venue
